Before, in this Victorian mansion's bedroom, your eye is drawn from
the fabulous period wallpaper featuring stylized palm trees, birds and animals
to the blue radiator. A mountain scene painting is out of scale and out
of sync with the tropical feel. Even with a fireplace on the right, the
area feels too cold, sparse and open. After, a more suitable print is hung,
a silk plant is added, carpet replaces the linoleum, the chair is moved
closer to the fireplace, a lamp is introduced and charming accessories are
arranged to give this area a warm and cozy feel.

This beautiful fireplace surround is overpowered by the pretty, but too-large
screen. Something is needed though, because the firebox is behind the
wall. (A future project for the homeowner.) Also, the two tin candle
sconces are circa colonial Williamsburg and don't fit with the
tropical, Old West Indies feel of the room. The screen was replaced
with a candelabra featuring tropical candles, and the mantle was given
bird candlesticks and other accessories to coordinate with the wallpaper.
Greenery at the bottom hides the end of the baseboard.
